Travel Itinerary
A short version of the famous Inca Trail, ideal for those who have less time but want to experience arriving at Machu Picchu on foot through the Inti Punku (Sun Gate), traversing the impressive Andean trails and cloud forests.
Day 1: Cusco – Km. 104 – Wiñayhuayna – Aguas Calientes
You will be picked up from your hotel at 3:30 a.m. to head to the Ollantaytambo station and take the 7:00 a.m. train to Km. 104 (2,000 m.a.s.l.) bordering the Urubamba River. Here our short Inca Trail begins. You will be provided with a packed lunch and drinks.
We will visit the first archaeological site with the explanation of our guide and begin the ascent along the classic path, enjoying views of Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu and the Urubamba River. The path continues for about 3 hours until we reach Wiñayhuayna ("Forever Young", 2,600 m.a.s.l.), ancient home of the Inca priests of Machu Picchu.
We will continue the tour for 4 km until we reach the Inti Punku (Sun Gate) where we will have the first and spectacular view of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. We will descend to take the classic photographs and take the bus to Aguas Calientes, where we will settle in the hotel and have dinner in a restaurant.
Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Very early we will go up to the Inca citadel. We will have a guided tour of the main places of Machu Picchu for approximately 2 hours. Then you will enjoy free time to explore the place at your own pace and take pictures.
In the afternoon, we will go down to the town of Aguas Calientes where we will take the return train to Ollantaytambo, and then the bus that will take us back to the city of Cusco.
