Salkantay Trek 4 Days / 3 Nights
Travel Itinerary
An accelerated version of the famous Salkantay Trek, ideal for those who have less time but do not want to miss the spectacular transition from the imposing Andean snow-capped mountains to the high jungle towards Machu Picchu.
Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa
We pick up from 04:30 a.m. from your respective hotels, start from Cusco at 05:00 a.m. passing through Izcuchaca and Limatambo until arriving at Mollepata (approx. 08:00 a.m.), where we will have our breakfast and hand over 7 kilos to our muleteer.
We board the bus again for 45 minutes to Marqoq'asa. We will begin the hike to the viewpoint where we will appreciate the Humantay snow-capped mountain and Inca water channels. We will continue for 3.5 hours to the lunch spot and campsite in Soraypampa.
Optional: Ascent and visit to Humantay lagoon (4,220 m.a.s.l.), 1h 20m up and 40m down.
Tea time at 18:00 p.m. and dinner at 19:30 p.m., then rest in our tents.
Route: Marqoq'asa and Soraypampa (14 km, 5 hours).
Day 2: Soraypampa - Salkantay - Chaullay
At 05:00 a.m. we will taste breakfast to continue with our hike at 06:30 a.m. We will make a gradual ascent of 4 hours to the Salkantay pass (4,650 m.a.s.l.), passing through Salkantay-pampa and Soyroq'ocha. At the pass we will make a small offering with coca leaves to the Pachamama and the Apu Salkantay.
We will make the descent of 2.5 hours to Huayrac-pampa for lunch. We continue the hike from 4,100 m.a.s.l. to 2,900 m.a.s.l. for 3.5 hours, entering the high jungle until we reach our campsite in Chaullay (tea and dinner).
Route: Soraypampa - Salkantay - Chaullay (22 km, 10 hours).
Day 3: Chaullay - Playa Sahuayaco - Hydroelectric - Aguas Calientes
We will have our breakfast at 06:00 a.m., then we will walk for 5.5 hours through the high jungle (flat ascents and descents). We will appreciate coffee plantations, orchids and medicinal plants, arriving at Playa Sahuayaca for lunch.
Then we will take a transport to Hydroelectric and then walk for 3 hours towards the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in a hostel and have our last dinner in a restaurant.
Day 4: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco
In the early morning, around 4:30 a.m., we will ascend towards the majestic Inca city of Machu Picchu. We will visit the place accompanied by our guide for 2 hours, and then we will have the rest of the day free to explore, visit the Inti Punku, the Inca bridge or Huayna Picchu (if you have the ticket).
We return in the afternoon to Aguas Calientes to board our return train to Ollantaytambo, followed by the tourist bus to Cusco.
