Karajia & Quiocta Cavern Tour

This is a day trip in Chachapoyas. It is an exciting combination of adventure and history: we will visit the Quiocta caverns. Here you will have the opportunity to observe interesting rock formations, stalactites, stalagmites and Chachapoyas burials. We will also meet the purunmachus of Karajía. These funerary structures are considered unique in the world for their style of construction, content and location.
Full Day: Karajía Sarcophagi and Quiocta Cavern
Our excursion begins at 8:00 AM; We leave the city of Chachapoyas heading to the province of Luya. We descend towards the Utcubamba valley, an emblematic place of this pre-Columbian civilization, and upon our arrival in Lamud we organize lunch.
Next, we continue our trip for 30 minutes to the Quiocta caverns (2700 meters above sea level). We will walk 5 minutes to the entrance of the cavern and explore its 550 meters depth, where we will be able to appreciate fascinating rock formations.
At the end of the tour in the cave, we return to Lámud for lunch. Then we will continue our trip to the town of Cruz Pata and begin the 2 km walk to the Karajía sarcophagi (there is optional horse and muleteer service).
Upon arriving in Karajía, our guide will explain to us about the religious beliefs of the Chachapoyas and other cultural factors that archaeologists have discovered in recent years. After our visit, we began the trip back to Chachapoyas.
