A trip for those interested in knowing unique tombs of the Pre-Inca Culture of the Chachapoyas. The trip begins from the City of Chachapoyas to the Mausoleums which are located about 60 km south of the city. The Revash Mausoleums are a set of funerary buildings that housed several mummies at the same time and that resemble small houses, forming a miniature town nestled in the limestone cliffs of the area. This type of tomb is extraordinary and unique; offers a different vision of the ceremonies and beliefs of this pre-Inca Culture.
In addition to the Revash mausoleums, you can appreciate the Leymebamba Museum, which contains more than 2,000 archaeological pieces from northern Peru and other parts of the region. Likewise, it houses 219 mummies in perfect condition, which were extracted from the pre-Hispanic tombs of Laguna de los Cóndores. If you are interested in learning about cultural manifestations of the past, human history and/or religious beliefs of different societies, this day trip is perfect for you.
Full Day: Revash Mausoleums and Leymebamba Museum
We will depart from Chachapoyas at 8:00 AM. The trip is approximately 2 hours by vehicle until we reach the town of San Bartolo, from where we will begin a walk of approximately half an hour to the Revash Mausoleums. Upon arriving at the tombs, our guide will explain the information about the place to us in detail.
Once the visit to the Mausoleums is over, we return to the vehicle and continue our trip to Leymebamba, where we will have lunch. Once we have enjoyed lunch, we move towards the Mallqui Center Museum, where we will stay as long as necessary to appreciate remains of pre-Hispanic materials such as ceramics, textiles, quipus, mummies and learn more about the Chachapoyas culture.
At the end of our visit to the Leymebamba Museum, we began our return trip to the city of Chachapoyas, arriving at the 6:30 PM approximately.
