The Great Vilaya Experience
Embark on a fascinating 3-day trek through the Gran Vilaya Valley, discovering remote archaeological sites of the Chachapoyas culture hidden in the cloud forest, concluding with a visit to the majestic Kuelap Fortress.
Day 1: Chachapoyas - Huaylla Belén - Congón
07:00 a.m. Departure from Chachapoyas in private transport to the Utcubamba Valley, ascending to the community of Karajía, and continuing to the beautiful Huaylla Belén valley (approx 3 hours).
From here, we start our downhill trek for approximately 4 to 5 hours, passing through different ecological levels and cloud forests.
We arrive at the community of Congon, where we will have dinner and spend the night in a basic rural hostel.
Day 2: Congon - Lanche - Yumal
After breakfast, we begin an uphill hike for about 3 hours to the Lanche pass.
Along the way, we will observe typical flora and fauna of the cloud forest, such as orchids and bromeliads.
We continue the hike (about 3 hours more) towards the community of Yumal, passing near the archaeological site of Pirquilla (observation from a distance).
Dinner and overnight in a basic rural hostel in Yumal.
Day 3: Yumal - Kuelap - Chachapoyas
Early breakfast to start our 2-hour hike to the imposing Kuelap Fortress.
Guided tour of approximately 2 hours inside the archaeological complex, exploring its circular houses, high walls, and ceremonial centers.
After the visit, we walk down to the village of Tingo (or descend by cable car, optional not included) where we will have lunch.
Return in our private transport to Chachapoyas, arriving around 5:00 p.m.
